two day road trip to canberra

Things Australians don't say: Canberra is fun! Just half kidding. Canberra is the result of Sydney and Melbourne fighting it out to be the capital of Australia. The result is that nobody wins. Just kidding. Canberra's alright.

One of my projects this year was to build a photography portfolio, but I haven't picked up my camera for that purpose for a while. I did do one photo shoot with a friend, but everything else has caught up to me. I've been meaning to visit a canola field for a while now, so when we passed one on the way Canberra, I got super excited! I made plans with a friend to shoot in one in two weeks time, so I'm excited for that! The weather has been pretty fantastic these days. (And I'm the person who gets sick with the weather transition. Worst. It's been my fifth cold this year. I don't even know.)

Parliament House has been super chipper thanks to Mr Prime Minister. I'm not even going to start on what I think of Tony Abbott and his politics.

The reason I went to Canberra was to help one of my friends set up a calligraphy exhibition in Parliament House's hall. Everything was paid for so that was super nice.

And a trip to Canberra couldn't be made without buying cake from Dobinsons! I had the most glorious strawberry and banana custard tart.

  1. Nice of you to help your friend out with the calligraphy exhibition! I don't know much about Canberra so I've never heard of that bakery but the tart looks amazing. I wish Canberra was a tad more interesting, it's in such a good daytrip location from Sydney but I have no idea what to do there...

    1. Exactly! We were planning to pop in to see the Floriade, but the lines were too long and we were short on time. Canberra's pretty dull. The last time we considered going to Canberra on a day trip we changed plans in the morning and went to the Entrance instead.

  2. I've wanted to head down to Canberra for a while now, largely to see if my opinion has changed and also for the Floriade which looks incredible. Maybe next year. That tart looks delish!

    1. Canberra was basically the same as the last time I went - I think that must have been ten years ago. Wow, it's been a while.
